WINDING WAY

Situated on a picturesque 6-acre knoll, the Winding Way residence is a 9800 square feet house which has breathtaking views of the coastline and offered Jeffrey Tohl tremendous potential for architectural expression primarily because of the topography and scope of the project. LA Architect

The original home had several aspects that did not fully utilise the inherent potential of the location — the home did not ‘bring in’ the view of the ocean, rooms did not have sufficient light, proportion and scale were out of place, a multitude of conflicting design elements created a conflicting architecture and the result was a lack of visual appeal.

“The remodel established a defining architectural character for the residence of a sprawling, vintage California Mediterranean villa with stunning vistas throughout. Using traditional forms and materials true to the style, including stone, wood and stucco, a strong visual presence was achieved. The original levels carved into the knoll were preserved — they now feature different types of living spaces.”
